PapersOwl Review 2023: Legit or Scam?

PapersOwl review

You intend to employ PapersOwl to produce an academic paper. So before you do that, you have to look at a thorough PapersOwl Review.

PapersOwl is an essay writing service if you are not aware of them. They have over 500 writers ready to help students to complete academic work.

At first glance, they seem to be credible. But the uneven reviews online along with a similar layout to Edubirdie raises some suspicions. You want to make sure the service is legitimate and this is not a scam to take your money.

You also want to see if they can provide a premium service and deliver an essay that will get you a good and decent grade.

We Tested PapersOwl’s Academic Service

We ordered a 4-page nursing essay on microbiology, focusing on Bacillus Anthracis, to be delivered in five days. This provided us with an opportunity to evaluate the manner in which their writers covered the salient academic aspects.

We applied the same stringent test to other academic services, including PaperHelp, Pay Me To Do Your Homework, and EduBirdie, which gives us assurance that we are evaluating every academic service against the standard.

How did it all go?

Our experience began well but then worsened until we uncovered a shocking fact about PapersOwl’s legitimacy. You’ll see. Here’s a brief summary.

What PapersOwl Offers

Services

PapersOwl offers a trio of essential services designed to support your academic journey.

  • Academic Service: We craft unique, from-scratch assignments tailored to your needs.
  • Editing Service: Our skilled editors refine your essays to perfection.
  • Free Writing Tools: Leverage our valuable resources to enhance your writing skills.

First, they offer help with research papers, essays, dissertations, presentations, and personal statements.

Next, there’s an editing service for those seeking professional advice to improve their papers.

Interestingly, they also provide writing tools for students tackling assignments.

And the good news is that almost all of them are pretty handy.

These are:

  • Free essay title generator: It gives you ideas and topics to write about.
  • Paraphrase tool: It supplies you with synonyms but does not rearrange the order.
  • Citation maker: It looks for your source and provides accurate citations.
  • Title page maker: It creates your title page in the proper format—APA, MLA, Turabian, Chicago, etc.
  • Plagiarism checker: It reviews your paper with an advanced AI writing assistant.

PapersOwl offers a thesis generator to organize your ideas.

Once you pick a topic, this tool helps create your thesis statement. It provides three structures to input your information. This is a great way to start writing.

However, it requires details like supporting points and counterarguments. So, it’s most useful when your work is nearly done.

Among their tools, we don’t recommend the conclusion generator. You paste your text, and the AI writes your last paragraph. However, it’s useless. It just rewrites the introduction with the same words and order, adding sentences from elsewhere in your text. It’s merely a summary, and a poor one at that.

PapersOwl’s Conclusion Generator rewrites the introduction.

Now that you know what PapersOwl offers, we’re ready to start our review.

Ordering Form

Click the “Order Now” button on the home page. You’ll be redirected to their online ordering form.

You must include all the important information for your academic assignment:

  • Service you need: Writing or editing
  • Deadline
  • Number of pages
  • Subject
  • Topic

You also have a space to **leave all the important instructions for your paper and attach any essential files**. These will help your assigned writer understand your essay better.

We included the grading rubric, instructions, and guidelines.

Next, pick a writer from three categories. We’ll explain this in the pricing section. You can choose any writer, or select from the top 50 or 20 rated professionals.

Don’t want to choose? Just pay $9.99 for an assigned writer.

We think it would be better if they asked for your preferred formatting and number of sources. Still, PapersOwl’s ordering is simple, fast, and straightforward.

After filling in the details, click “Choose writer” and sign in. You can create your account via Google, Facebook, Apple, or email.

PapersOwl’s Ordering Form is simple and easy to follow

Choosing a Writer

After signing in, you’ll see offers from writers that match your order.

Before we even checked the first profile, we got messages from several writers offering help.

How many? Over nine in under a minute.

All were quite general.

The writers said they had reviewed our nursing paper prompt, claimed it was in their specialty, and asked to help.

We got over 9 messages in under a minute.

Not one of them mentioned our assignment prompt specifically. They said they read it, but expecting nine writers to read through three documents in less than a minute is a big ask. Doubts like this, among other Writer aspects in this PapersOwl review, made us question the credibility of their academic writers.

After reading the automated messages, we went for “Dr.Reed.”

She said she would:

  • Follow the essay instructions
  • Use the required formatting style
  • Focus on quality over quantity

Her last promise and good reviews on past papers made us pick her.

Despite the flood of fake messages, we found PapersOwl’s ordering process simple and organized. You can share assignment details and pick a writer in minutes.

So, we rated their process an 8/10.

After that, we just had to pay for our paper.

PapersOwl Pricing

The key question on everyone’s mind is: How much does PapersOwl cost?

Their professional service costs a minimum of $13.5, according to their website. However, since they operate a bidding system, the final price depends on the writer you select.

PapersOwl features a unique payment system. You’ll pay the complete amount for the order before getting what you ordered, but the funds stay in your account until you confirm satisfaction with the assignment. This guarantees that the writer meets deadlines and responds to modifications if needed.

And how much did we pay?

For our four-page nursing essay due in 5 days, bids ranged from $98 to $162. Most were between $100 and $110.

We paid $106, or $26.5 per page. This was nearly double the starting price.

The lack of a clear pricing page was frustrating. It didn’t show the minimum prices or other cost factors, besides the deadline.

Writer’s Categories

Here’s the rewritten text:

We’ve identified three distinct writers’ categories when filling out the ordering form.

These categories are:

  • All Levels (Default): This includes every PapersOwl writer
  • Gold Writers (10% more): The top 50 experts in your subject area
  • Platinum Writers (20% more): The top 20 specialists in your chosen subject

You can opt for experienced writers with higher satisfaction rates or native speakers, but this comes at an extra cost.

This additional feature has two major flaws.

First, you cannot confirm that the assigned expert writer has the required academic background for your assignment. The profile appears identical to others on PapersOwl, with perfect ratings and reviews, but lacks factual verification to justify the additional cost.

Secondly, PapersOwl insinuates that superb papers will attract an increased price, and this should be standard assurance regardless of price.

They should express complete transparency concerning their writers’ writing experience by confirming the writers’ expertise and alleviating the worry for customers.

Additional Costs

A clear indication that you will Next Level Your Paper

To take your paper to a higher standard, we have the following options for you:

  • Early Draft of your paper: Add 15% to total.
  • 1-Page Abstract: Add 1 page for $26.50.
  • Clear Outline: $12.
  • VIP Service and 24/7 Customer Support Team: $12.99.

Moreover, they will provide a plagiarism report along with your order, which will be automatically determined by their own plagiarism checker tool.

Delivering an early draft, providing 24/7 support, and more should be standard inclusions, not premium services.

PapersOwl presents itself as an affordable service, but it needs to be more transparent about its prices. Our main issue is that they charge extra for better quality papers and essential academic elements.

We rate their prices 6/10.

We worked with Dr.Reed and here’s our experience.

To track your order’s progress or discuss it with your writer, use PapersOwl’s built-in chat feature. This feature provides real-time updates on your essay’s status.

Dr. Reed’s communication was professional but lacking. When she distributed the first paper, she simply marked it, ‘completed,’  without so much as a greeting to ask if we needed changes. After we asked her to revise it with straightforward instructions, she simply did not respond and sent us the last version without comment.

It was clear that Dr.Reed prioritized completing orders over providing personalized support. We rate our communication with the writer a 7/10.

While it’s not necessarily bad that they don’t want to help you with your academic life, the complete lack of communication with our writers is a downside that should have been present at least to introduce herself or deliver the paper.

PapersOwl Essay Quality

This PapersOwl review’s most critical aspect is the paper quality.

Our Editor in Chief reviewed the essay.

We received our order in just one day, proving our writer could deliver a completed essay within a tight deadline.

This expedited delivery sets a high standard.

Our in-house Editor in Chief, Chiqui, reviewed the essay as a basic check on the standard of the first delivery process, such as strong writing, grammar, and “general academic writing level.”

First Draft (1st Conv)

We wanted a revised essay due to two primary concerns within the first draft.

The first issue was formatting errors, such as not having the title page and heading centered. Each should be centered, not left aligned and underlined. This error made the paper look like a high school essay.

This rapid delivery sets a high bar.

Our in-house Editor in Chief Chiqui reviewed the essay as a check on the quality of the original delivery and to see how things were in the areas of strong writing, grammar, and overall quality, based on the level of academic writing.

First Draft

We sent a revised essay for two primary reasons noted in the first version.

The APA formatting was outdated.

Second Draft

She delivered the revised version in a day for the second time.

The second draft achieved the required word count.

However, this was the only area she got right.

She didn’t fix the formatting mistakes we documented, including leaving the title page and headings as they were.

More importantly, the revision completely destroyed the structure of our essay. The introduction, for example, is too short, only two sentences when it should be at least four or five. This structural issue persists throughout the whole essay, with long sentences in short paragraphs.

The absence of connectors impeded the reading flow and comprehension. The next paragraph shows this, because the three sentences which make this point appear separate as individual ideas.

PapersOwl’s Biggest Mistakes

Lastly, we made two big mistakes in the paper.

First, we did not provide a diagram depicting how the organism disperses.

However, Dr.Reed sent us a blurry image, clearly from Google. She didn’t download it; she just took a screenshot!

Adding such a low-quality diagram would surely lower our grade.

Surprisingly, the second mistake is worse.

We sent our “experienced writer” two files: one with instructions on required sections and another with guidelines for essay structure.

Only the instructions file asked for a hypothetical scenario about contracting the disease from our chosen microorganism.

However, this section was missing from the essay we got.

Clearly, our writer failed to read the attached files properly. This is shocking and marks the biggest issue we had with PapersOwl’s paper.

Let’s review the commitments projected in “Dr. Reed’s” first contact to summarize the content of her first message: following the instructions, writing in the prescribed format and valuing quality over quantity.

All three of these promises received failing grades.

To start, Dr. hitched the idea of following out detailed instructions – she conflated our original 10 page length to APA style writing and turned it in 2 pages too long.

A total disappointment.

In a positive development, our check for plagiarism showed reflecting only 2 percent, and that was a couple of short unrelated sentences.

She also provided a theft check report with a lot of 6 percent because of consecutive citations.

Following our own check, PapersOwl varified an averge quality paper. Here is our summary:

  • 5 for APA formatting. We asked for fixes, but none were made.
  • 3 for clarity and comprehension. The paper had a poor structure, a low-quality diagram, and a missing section.
  • 9 for plagiarism. We found no issues.

PapersOwl Guarantees

If you’re unhappy with your paper, does PapersOwl offer refunds?

Yes, it has a refund policy. However, the amount depends on your case.

To request a refund, detail the violations. List how the paper differs from your order’s standards and requirements.

Here are their guarantees.

100% Refund if:

  • You cancel before a writer was assigned or 15 minutes after you created the order.
  • You accidentally pay twice for the same order.
  • You receive your order after the deadline you set, and don’t download it.
  • The plagiarism level exceeds 10%.

If you get a 100% refund, you can’t use the essay.

We offer partial refunds in the following situations:

  • You cancel before half the deadline has passed: 70% refund guaranteed
  • You cancel after half the deadline has passed or the essay doesn’t meet your standards, but you still plan to use it: 50% refund guaranteed
  • The writer misses the deadline, but you decide to use the paper anyway: 30% refund guaranteed

We Do Not Issue Refunds in the Following Circumstances:

  • When we complete your assignment and mark it as “finished”
  • If you fail to provide a comprehensive list of violations
  • If technical issues on your end prevent you from downloading your essay
  • When you miss the deadline due to insufficient materials or failure to respond to our team
  • If you provide an invalid email address
  • When the deadline you specify in the ordering form differs from the actual deadline required
  • If you miss the deadline and request a refund after downloading your completed essay

We acknowledge their clear refund policy and plagiarism guarantee. However, we believe they need a quality policy for poorly graded papers.

What’s the use of hiring a pro service for a tough assignment if the work is subpar? Without such a guarantee, you risk your money and grade.

So, we rate PapersOwl’s guarantees a 6 out of 10.

PapersOwl is not a reputable service.

In this review, we tackle the most critical question: Is PapersOwl legit?

In this review, we address the most important question: Is PapersOwl real?

We put them to the test by paying for a service, outlining instructions, and meeting the due date. The quality was lacking, but they completed and did not take our money without some sort of output.

PapersOwl, however, is just a clone of Edubirdie, and not just because they share a mascot of an owl, or a similar website print.

Both provide the same important elements and features:

  • A simple ordering process using a form, writers categories, and a bidding system
  • An intuitive navigation portal
  • A clean layout
  • A secure and payment system

At first, we thought they were truly just copying the Edubirdie popular brand to confuse clients.

However, we uncovered in their respective Terms of Service, PapersOwl and Edubirdie shared the same ownership.

Now, let’s look at RATATATA LTD. This company from Bulgaria is a platform that enhances engagement & sales by utilizing SEO and promotions. In a nutshell, RATATATA engages in written content creation which is a strategy to convert and acquire more online customers.

At first glance, this seems fine. But a deeper look reveals something else. RATATATA LTD holds three trademarks.

All these trademarks are for essay-writing services that follow the same process.

But, Edubirdie’s Terms of Service show it is a separate company. PapersOwl, Edusson, and EssayCP are owned by RATATATA LTD.

We know these three companies are directly linked to Edubirdie because they share a fake writer’s catalog and database.

Not only were their writers’ profiles fake and incomplete, they had no relevant personal information, or even any indication that they had academic credentials. And it appeared as if the writers had not even read our instructions or guidelines! Rather, they used an automated quote like, “I understand your needs – please hire me.”

After we dug a little deeper into the writers’ profiles, we ran reverse images for their images. The results were totally conclusive! Of course they were fake images! For example, if Huddy is not writing essays for English or Nursing, he’s apparently an expert hair model.

There was something very telling about Huddy’s profile. In particular, there was a positive review that read like a promotional piece for Huddy’s work. The reviewer certified that Huddy met EduBirdie’s standards, EduBirdie being a competitor, and not related to PapersOwl.

Given the journalistic implications of educational or scholarly standards, we did nothing short of re-write Hudson’s url to read: edubirdie.

We uncovered a consistent pattern: Edubirdie’s branding led us to identical pages. This same phenomenon occurred with Edusson, EssayCP, and every other writer in their extensive catalog.

It’s crucial to note that this approach is legal. EduBirdie employs this strategy to boost sales and expand their reach across companies while maintaining a single workflow, writers’ catalog, and database.

Our tests with EduBirdie and PapersOwl met our expectations. They aren’t scams.

Yet, it’s suspicious they run multiple sites for the same service. This suggests they prioritize profit over helping students.

Moreover, both times we got poorly written essays full of mistakes. Clearly, they’re not a top-quality service.

We give PapersOwl a 3 in legitimacy.

At our service, you communicate directly with your writer and know your assigned expert.

Our Verdict.

What’s our take on PapersOwl?

We don’t think it’s worth it. The pricing was unclear. Communication with the writer was automated. The paper quality was poor.

It had a bad structure. The paragraphs were short and disconnected. The diagram? A Google image. Our writer missed a required section, ignoring our instructions.

What we disliked most? PapersOwl’s lack of legitimacy, linked to Edubirdie. They’re not a scam and won’t steal your money. Seriously, with the fake writers and secondary sites, they don’t care about quality help; they want only your money.

We recommend PapersOwl for the quick fix or another site to use samples of your papers. Otherwise, forget about it if you’re looking for help in quality or a service that will save you time for your important career.

PapersOwl Cons

  • The essay was really poorly structured

  • The diagram they included was subpar
  • The writer didn’t thoroughly review the instructions we sent and skipped a section
  • It’s hard to tell what you’re paying for since the pricing isn’t straightforward
  • Communicating with the writer feels like talking to a robot
  • There are extra costs that should just be part of the service
